Together with his friend Vince Weber, who since a long time wanted to initiate a special pianists’ meeting exactly on 8-8-88, Axel Zwingenberger is the co-host of this annual, improvised session at Hamburg’s Fabrik. As in the long music nights at the "Sperl" club in Hamburg, whose patron Poldi Eidenhammer looked after "his" pianists’ bunch like a godfather, the music was meant to be in the main focus. No big spectacle, no nonsense, just two grand pianos on stage, a good sound, and Blues and Boogie Woogie are set to start. The Fabrik is an ideal and legendary place for that.

The illustrious row of musicians, who have performed at "The Hamburg Boogie Woogie Connection", is extremely long: besides dozens of home grown musicians, there were international greats, from Champion Jack Dupree via Ray Bryant to Chris Jagger or Mike Sanchez.

With "The Hamburg Boogie Woogie Connection" as a role model, meanwhile similar festivals came into existance all over Europe, in Salzkammergut, Tessin, Burgundy, Auvergne, Dorset or Gyoer, just to name a few.
