Poldi Eidenhammer "Der Pate"

From its beginning, Poldi organized "The Hamburg Boogie Woogie Connection". From the late 1970s on, he ran the Jazz bar "Sperl" at Hamburg’s Karolinenviertel, until the 1990s. Joe Cocker, Chuck Berry or Robert Cray jammed there after their concerts until the early morning hours for the small crowd.

Not only these stars, but literally all Boogie Woogie and Blues musicians were his guests. Poldi Eidenhammer helped young musicians and provided support for them. Not a single evening went by without Boogie Woogie and Blues played at Poldi’s "Sperl". Even the first Hamburg Boogie Woogie Connection of 8-8-88 expanded to a permanent "Sperl" session for several days, with pianists pounding the piano almost around the clock!

To the shock of all Hamburg music lovers, Poldi Eidenhammer passed away on Christmas eve, 2012. We keep going on, as he would have done!
