Michael Hortig from Graz, Austria, has been active in the Blues and Boogie scene since the 1970s, but not only as a pianist. He is an untiring researcher and has made "field recordings" in the Southern states of the U. S. with interviews and musical examples of almost forgotten Blues pianists. He also publishes articles about Blues. At the piano, he devotes himself to the music of the early Barrelhouse pianists, most of them forgotten today. His virtuoso playing produces interesting tonalities and musical colours, and he also composes himself. Michael is the master mind of the "Steirisches Boogie Woogie Festival", which is annually staged at Arnfels.
